In the local theater and musical performance world, a season typically runs from the fall to the following spring, with a summer break before the next season begins.
This past season, Hilltop supported the arts with advertising in both the Wisconsin Rapids Community Theater and Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra programs. Music and theater are creative outlets for those who participate and a pleasant diversion for audience members. Both performing and watching or listening stimulate the mind. It’s an altogether different experience than watching TV or a movie.
Once Hilltop Grand Village opens, our members will be invited to local concerts and productions to support the arts and to experience that live audience atmosphere.
Hilltop also will support another type of live music. We will sponsor a concert of the Wisconsin Rapids City Band this summer. The city band has been in existence for more than 150 years. Local players rehearse and perform from June through August. Tuesday night concerts are held at 7:15 p.m. at Robinson Park band shell. If it rains, the concert is moved to the Performing Arts Center at Lincoln High School, with a start time of 7:30 p.m.
The city band also performs July 4 at Centralia Center as part of the Independence Day celebration downtown. It will host a fundraising performance at the PAC on July 31. All city band performances are free and open to the public.
In addition to placing an ad in the program, Hilltop will provide free refreshments and information at the June 21 band concert at Robinson Park. We would love to have you join us. The city band concerts are festive, yet casual, events. Unlike a symphony concert, you can clap along and even dance to the music at city band concert. Bring your kids or grandkids to the park. They won’t have to sit still in a padded chair in a dimly lit auditorium.
Don’t get me wrong – both are great experiences for children and adults. But a concert in the park might be a good way to introduce little ones to live entertainment in a more casual setting. It’s a fun, relaxing way to spend an evening for all ages.
Won’t you join us in support of the arts?
