My head is swimming.
I spent most of a recent week at training to learn to be a trainer for our employees.
The state requires employees to go through a certain amount of training when they first become caregivers. We have to go through fire safety, standard precautions and first aid and choking. Anyone who will pass medications to residents also take a medication administration course.
I spent four days taking classes to teach three courses. Some of the people I attended were spending six days in training. That’s a lot of time to be learning.
The nice part about it is I don’t have to be an expert. I will facilitate learning for our employees and serve as a resource for them. If they have questions, I’ll be able to help them find someone with an answer.
Then, I turned around a couple of days later and went to the Alzheimer’s Association conference, which featured sessions over three days. I learned a lot about Alzheimer’s and dementia. I always do when I attend that conference. It’s helpful for sharing information with the people who attend our support group as well as our employees.
It was lots to learn, but they were great opportunities. I look forward to sharing my knowledge to help others, too.
